Casa 69

Historic house renovated to a charming B&B. Located just four blocks east of the National Museum, no more than 10 minutes walking distance to the center of town and to gay nightlife. No longer gay owned but gay friendly and continues to have a fair number of gay clientele.

The owner is totally obnoxious and disrespectful of customers, regardless of the fact that when they reach her place, they have X hours’ flight behind them. She takes advantage of hotel booking sites, but once people have made their reservations she asks via en email, which I was fortunate enough not to receive, to make a prepayment via her own website, which from what she writes or claims in order to defend herself, is more often than not down. She definitely charges customers more than the price mentioned on the reservation confirmation sent by booking.com, in my case. And she dared to say that the price did not include the 13% VAT, although this is what it read for 7 nights: “Room: US$278.76 – Included: VAT (13%) US$ 36.24 -TOTAL PRICE: €229 US$ 315”. And apparently, this has been going on for a long time. Someone must stop her from embezzling any more tourists. This is what I meant to do. If she was Costa Rican, I would understand it, but she seems to be an English native speaker from Canada, as the staff told me.

Concerning the brothels, she does not stand a chance of seeing that the hotels around hers let room for 4 hours only at any time of the day or night, as she does not speak a word of Spanish. She must be deaf, too, as the noise reported by so many guests on this page goes on all night long on either side of the hotel (the train and buses), and next to it (there must be at least four pubs in the close vicinity playing music all night). And to top it all, she herself adds another source of noise by having 2 huge dogs and four of five dirty cats that fight all night. Finally, as regards the staff, they do also complain about her fits, and she herself confesses that she is not always “herself”. So, something must be done!

Kurt, the previous owner has sold to a straight middle aged women. Place does not have same gay vibe it used to. Location is good for access to clubs, but I now stay at colours
