Lake Arenal and Volcano at sunset

A World of Adventure Awaits in the Highlands Between the Coasts

Eco-tourism, lodges with mountain and volcano views and cloud forests await you in the highland parts of Costa Rica. National parks with hiking, waterfalls and amazing bird and animal spotting opportunities are also highlights. The weather is cooler than the heat of the coasts and there are several small towns where LGBT owned or friendly businesses cater to travelers.

The La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano area is one of Costa Rica's principal tourism spots and has it's share of LGBT businesses as well.

If you need transport from San Jose or other locations, there are regular buses and shuttles to all as well as turboprop flights to several destinations. You can see all the transport options between any two points in Costa Rica on our transport planner.
