Playita: The gay beach, over the rocks northwest of the main beach, continues to attract a gay following. This photo was from the days when the beach was undeveloped and so Playita was mostly gay and clothing optional. Now the beach is shared with a hotel which has been developed behind the beach.

There's a lot to explore on the Pacific Coast so we've split up our destination pages into the following:

  • Manuel Antonio and Quepos - The Gayest Beach Scene in Central America. Manuel Antonio National Park and the area around has been a magnet for LGBT travelers for generations and continues to offer the widest variety of LGBT options outside the central valley.

  • Central Pacific Coast - The towns of Dominical, Puntarenas, Jaco and others have much to explore.

  • Guanacaste and Nicoya - The Guanacaste Coast and the Nicoya Peninsula have some of Costa Rica's most well-developed tourist infrastructure and a wide variety of places to visit from backpacker/surf towns to luxury resorts.

  • Osa and Southern Costa Rica - Wild and remote, this is where you come to get away from it all. Definitely more monkeys than people.
